Sarah Jane Dunaway

Creative Director + Owner

For the last eight years I have worked full-time as a self-employed Copywriter and Creative Director specializing in UX writing, copy editing, graphic design and strategic brand identity campaigns. I have almost 20 years of experience in advertising and marketing with experience in a wide range of industries including healthcare and wellness, architecture and construction, non-profit organizations and political campaigns. I am a graduate student at Harvard University, pursuing a masters degree in journalism.

I have traveled to Mbarara to document and photograph cervical cancer patients for a non-profit client. I have written editorial articles on refugees in the Middle East and Africa. I have single-handedly created and executed the UX writing and website design, identity design, brand strategy, and launch of all creative copywriting for a high-end million-dollar condominium building. I have created all event marketing and copy for the annual Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) black-tie gala in Anne Arundel County, which brings in over $100,000 each November. I also handle all of their public relations and corporate communications. I have served as communications director for the candidate of a county council political campaign.

In college I pursued internships in all departments of advertising, including a summer in London. My interest in advertising led me to paper and printing to pursue a position as a paper specification representative in Seattle, Washington. As the industry turned towards digital, I transitioned with my employer into a marketing position, eventually becoming the second employee for their eCommerce venture.

Previously in my career I have held positions in graphic design, social media strategy, copywriting and blogging, marketing and brand strategy, and website design. I have published a successful lifestyle and parenting blog and have traveled to Africa on assignment. Though my skillset and professional range is vast, I am a dedicated creative with strategic insight and a primary passion for copywriting—whether it be editorial, corporate communications, or humorous and creative ad copy.

In 2014 I left my position as a Senior Social Media Strategist at a mid-sized advertising agency to start my own firm. I turned my passion for paper, brand strategy, design and copywriting into a digital marketing career. Over the years I have worked with a wide variety of companies and industries, both big and small, and as a freelancer, employee and employer.

In my spare time I love running [half] marathons, contemplating why I run, cooking overly-healthy kale-based meals, and writing. In my past life I ran a lifestyle and health-based blog, followed by a parenting-focused blog called Mommy Has Struggles. I have written several TV sitcoms (which are currently collecting dust on my laptop).
